Suspend
Development
To the Editor:
The City Council of
Rolling Hills Estates should be lauded for its courage and foresight
in considering a moratorium on further development in the Peninsula
Village.
The residents of the Palos Verdes Peninsula communities have gone on
record in opposing such an open-ended urbanization plan that would
change the landscape on the Peninsula forever.
With all due respect to
property owners' rights, the neighborhoods and homeowners on the
Peninsula expect their elected representatives to champion and
balance the rights of residents to a rural-type atmosphere and a
safe environment.
The projects currently
authorized, consisting of 133 units and at various stages of
construction will clearly provide and support a more proper database
with regard to traffic flow, circulation and parking, as well as air
pollution and safety, rather than the untested and unproven theories
and assurances promoted by paid consultants.
Therefore, any future
development should be suspended pending these findings by the city's
own Planning Department and officially documented for public
scrutiny.

What about neighbors?
To the Editor:
The city of Rolling
Hills Estates' plan to build more condos seems to me to not take
into consideration the people living in the communities around this
terrible plan.
I have lived in Rancho
Palos Verdes for 35 years now and I have had enough. For those last
35 years, I have supported the local businesses and have done my
shopping in their stores. It seems the only way for me to express my
disappointment with RHE is to take my business elsewhere. RPV
officials will share in my disappointment if they do not fight your
disastrous plan. With a copy of this letter to all my friends,
relatives and neighbors, hopefully they will respond in the same
manner.

Moratorium needed
To the Editor:
A moratorium on the
Peninsula Center development plan to allow more time for public
reaction and completion of the impact studies is of prime
importance. I believe there is a substantial silent majority of
opposition from whom we haven't heard.
Over the last few
months I have discussed the plan with numerous people from all sides
of the Hill and from all four cities. Only one person has been at
all supportive, and many of those opposed were strong about their
feelings. The tone of the letters to this paper has been consistent
with what I've heard.
In the May 24 edition
of this paper, Rolling Hills Estates Mayor Susan Seamans was quoted
as saying, 'I just think we're trying to please a certain part of
our community that we don’t know how large it is. The majority of
the population thinks we're doing fine'.
However, the only
support for Seamans, of which I'm aware, is from the developers and
one or two of her fellow City Council members. Note that in recent
RHE City Council voting, she was the only one (1-4) opposed to a
moratorium ordinance and she was one of two (2-3) against seeking
proposals to reduce the size of the development. It appears to me
that the City Council doesn’t support the plan, let alone "a
majority of the population"
The RHE City Council
needs to hear from those of us who support a moratorium and oppose
the plan. You will find their e-mail addresses at

Plan good for seniors
To the Editor:
Overlooked in the
debate of the Rolling Hills Estates Village Plan is the fact that as
we get older, there is less and less value to "open space" and
“rural atmosphere.” Sooner or later we need to, or should, quit
driving our cars. Then what?
We are then either
isolated in our homes or are forced to move to an assisted-living
facility. How nice it would be if there was an opportunity to move
to "downtown" RHE from where one could walk to the library, the
theatre, multiple restaurants, the post office, the barber shop,
etc., and not need a car. The Village would provide that opportunity
and enable seniors to remain part of the community.
